Preventive Dentistry

Our goal is to help you keep your mouth as healthy as possible. Generally speaking the commonest problems in the mouth are tooth decay and gum disease. There are a multitude of causes of these problems, but what we eat and drink and how we clean our teeth are major factors. Healthy gum is as important as healthy teeth as gum is responsible for holding the teeth in place.

Tooth decay can only be repaired by the dentist, but mostly is a one off procedure; once the decay is removed and the tooth is mended, it should stay healthy for many years.

Gum disease can only be cured by the patient, with the help of the hygienist and the dentist and the fight against gum disease is an ongoing one. How you clean your teeth at home is very important and cleaning in between your teeth (using floss, inter-dental brushes or toothpicks) is the most important weapon in the fight against gum disease.

Our aim is to educate our patients and help them to reduce the damage that diet and poor cleaning is responsible for.

The cleaner a mouth is, the healthier it will be and this will help to reduce the need for invasive treatments in the future. Prevention is better than cure!

At our practice, we are committed to helping our patients to eliminate gum disease and tooth decay, giving them a lifetime of healthy teeth and gums with low maintenance costs.
