Pre Christmas Dental Checks

A visit to our Burton family dentist can help to avoid dental problems over the Christmas period.

It is hard not to notice the onset of winter as the long dark nights and the chill in the air help to remind us that it is not long to go now until Christmas arrives. For most of us, this is a time of the year when we take a break from work and spend it with our families and loved ones.

With good planning, the Christmas period should be a happy and successful one, but, of course, things don’t always go the way that we hope and situations can arise to disrupt the festivities and cause a lot of distress for those involved.

Neglected dental problems

One such example of this is when severe toothache strikes. Anyone who has experienced this will know how debilitating it can be. Sometimes it arises simply because we have ignored a niggling problem with a tooth, in the hope that it will go away. Other times though, it may suddenly flare up completely unexpectedly, especially if we have neglected having our teeth checked for some time.

Tiny cracks that appear in the teeth, or minor breakages, may not always be noticed by the person at the time that it happens. Even minor dental decay is not always obvious initially. The longer these problems are left though, the greater the likelihood of the nerves in the roots of the tooth becoming infected, potentially causing significant pain; certainly enough to spoil the Christmas festivities.

Dental checks

If you live in the Burton area and haven’t visited your local family dentist for a check up in some time, it is not too late to do so before the holiday period. In fact, the sooner that you make an appointment at Mike Allen’s Dental Practice, the quicker we can treat any problems. A small filling now might just prevent that throbbing tooth that even the Christmas festivities can’t make you forget. The knowledge too that dental practices are closed for several days at this time of the year only makes matter worse.

A simple and quick visit now could mean all the difference between an enjoyable and an unpleasant Christmas.

Emergency dental care

Even with regular oral health checks, dental emergencies can arise. A tooth that breaks due to an accident, for example, may cause problems that simply can’t wait until after the holiday period. Whilst we do always try to see patients as soon as possible when these events occur, this is not possible when the practice is closed. In the unfortunate event of a genuine dental emergency over the Christmas period, please call 07731 107470 and listen to the message for advice on what action to take.

If you, or your children, have not had an oral health check for some time, ensuring that they receive one before Christmas should hopefully lead to a happy and pain free holiday.
