Looking To The Future With A Brighter Smile!
Renewed optimism for 2021 in Burton on Trent?
It may, for some of us, feel that lockdowns and restrictions on our lives are becoming a permanent feature; although the need for them at the moment is clear. Even in the past when restrictions were lifted to a degree, things seemed to rapidly take a turn for the worse and we ended up back where we started. This latest lockdown may feel especially stressful for some people, especially in this grey and wet weather which deters us from getting outside for some fresh air.
It is a trying time for sure, but there are signs of hope. The vaccination roll out seems to be going reasonably well, and even if there are a few drawbacks along the way, we should hopefully expect things to start to improve by the spring or summer of this year. Of course, it is over optimistic to expect things to be completely normal but with a little care, we should all be able to start living our lives again.
When this time arrives, what better way to greet it than with a brighter, whiter smile.
Sprucing up for spring with cosmetic dentistry
It might seem a long way off at the moment as we look out onto another rainy day, but in a few months, the sun will be out more and flowers and buds starting to come through. This is often a time when we start to think about a new set of clothes and look at general ways to give our lives a bit of a ‘kick start’ for the year. At Mike Allen’s Dental Practice, it is often around this time of year when we start to see more patients coming to us for cosmetic dental treatments to improve their smile. Whilst some of these treatments offer an almost immediate result, some are better started a little earlier to allow time for them to work fully.
Let us take a look then, at some of the treatments available at our Burton dental clinic that can help you have a nicer smile with more attractive teeth. We also offer some guidance on how long these take to work so that you can plan your treatments accordingly.
In some situations, braces have to be worn for a long period of time, often taking a year or more to fully work. This isn’t always the case though, and where your smile is spoiled by a minor issue with your front teeth, such as a slight overlapping, it may be possible to correct this in a much shorter time, sometimes just a few weeks. The time taken will depend on your situation though and you will need to have a consultation with one of our dentists who will be able to advise.
If you are looking to straighten your smile for the spring or summer, we recommend that you see a dentist as soon as possible so that any treatment can start in time.
For those of you who have teeth that are heavily discoloured, perhaps from years of smoking, or whose teeth are showing signs of wear and tear such as cracks or chips in them, dental veneers are an excellent solution.
Unlike a teeth whitening procedure, the veneers are used to provide a new front surface to the teeth. These can be made in any shade and many of our Burton patients opt to have these produced at least a few shades whiter than their natural teeth. We are always happy to discuss this with you. There are many things to consider and whilst it might seem obvious to have them as white as possible, this will almost inevitably lead to comments from those around you. You may be happy about this or you may prefer to let your new teeth blend in more and have the whiteness improved to a lesser degree.
This is probably our most popular cosmetic dental treatment, and especially for those fast teeth improvements that so many desire. Even though it is fast acting however, it still requires a little planning if you hope to have the maximum results for a specific date, such as a holiday. The first part of the treatment is to have the health of your teeth checked and any minor restorations, such as fillings, done so that you have a healthy mouth. After this, we will then take impressions of your teeth and these are sent to a dental laboratory so that the trays, which will hold the whitening gel, can be made. This usually takes one to two weeks.
Finally, you will be given the whitening gel and full instructions so that you can use the trays to whiten your teeth at home. You should expect to notice some improvement after a week or so, with the full effects being seen around one week after that.
There are many ways to improve your smile, and the extensive range of cosmetic procedures at our Burton Dental Practice can help you achieve just that. In order to receive the most appropriate treatment, you will need to book a consultation with one of our cosmetic dentists.
